This mod adds Matthias, a fully voiced melee combat training/sparring partner to the Great Porch in Dragonsreach.
Matthias is a Whiterun Guard that offers you the opportunity to combat with him. He leans against the wall at the left side when you enter the Great Porch.
By talking to him you can ask him to train with you.
He will confirm and ask you which weapon you wanna choose (this is the weapon you will fight with), you can either choose "One Handed", "One Handed with Shield", "Two Handed" or "Dual Wield".
Then he will ask you which weapon you want to counter (this is the weapon Matthias will fight with), there you also can choose between "One Handed", "One Handed with Shield", "Two Handed" or "Dual Wield".
After this the Fight Starts and Matthias and you are drawing your weapons.
Of course, you won't get a bounty during the training and the other guards won't attack you either.
But if you attack Matthias outside of the training/sparring mode you will get a bounty and the other guards will attack you.
For safety reasons, only special training weapons made out of wood will be used.
The combat stops if
- you sheathe your weapon or
- Matthias enters bleedout or
- your health gets very low (because it is not meant to be a fight to death) or
- you switch your combat weapon (because Matthias is not stupid and won't battle against real weapons or unfair magic ;p)
Also you can not train when your health is to low or you have a bounty in Whiterun.
Update 1.1:
- New mode added: You can now fight bare handed (the trainer will fight only with bare hands if you do the same)
- Now the fight also stops when you leave the Great Porch.
- The trainer now takes 50 gold for a training session
- some bug fixes
Update 1.2:
-bug fixes
- The trainer now takes by default 100 gold for a training session (with the command "set CLMeleeTrainingGold to x" it is possible to change the amount of gold - set it to 0 for free training)
Motivation
I found it a bit unimmersive that always when I started a new game, I, the glorious noob with literly no experience in combat should bring back the dragon stone from an old dangerous dungeon full of bloodthirsty bandits and undead dead. So I wanted to have the opportunity to improve my combat skills and get ready for those dusty guys.
But, you may ask me, can an ordinary peasant train with the guards just like that?
I say yes, because you already did a favor to the jarl by telling him about the dragon attack in Helgen, so he will make an exception and also because he want you to visit this spooky nord tomb.
If you need an other reason you can also combine it with this mod and become a Whiterun Guard. I think they fit very well together
Compatibility
I believe this mod should be compatible with the most mods. Maybe mods that make changes to the "Dragonsreach Great Porch" can cause problems.
Installation
Can be added any time, also mid game, simple download with your mod manager or add the files manuell to your data folder.
Deinstallation
Should be possible at any time, the scripts are all fire and forget and run only during the interaction with the combat trainer. Ok, maybe you should not remove it during the sparring.
Issues
There is one little issue I wasn't able to fix: When you choose "Dual Wield" as your weapon, then your character will not automatically equip the left hand weapon. To solve this, you have to open the inventory and equip it manuell to your left(!) hand by right clicking on the weapon (the weapon should be in your inventory).
